Welcome to 6th Grade!! |
We are now in the 3rd week of school, and I think things are going great! I'm excited about having each of you in my reading class. | |

AR |
AR is a 6th grade reading requirement. Each student has been tested on his or her own independent level and that is the level that they may check out books from. They went to the library last Friday so each student has 2 books, and they must always have at least 1 book with them in every class. AR is figured into each reading grade 3 times, once for the test average and 2 times for the percentage of points for that 6 weeks. So, you can see that it is very important for everyone to read, read, read!!

Week of September 8-12, 2008 |
In this area each week will be the weekly agenda for my reading class. This way you can keep up with what your child is doing and should be doing in class.
They are watching the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Last week they read the play "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" so they are comparing the play to the movie. When they are through with the movie, they will turn in their notes for a grade.
They will then learn 6 story element terms. They will be doing several activities using these terms and their definitions. If all goes as according to plan, they will have a short test on Monday matching these terms with their definitions. So, they should be studying these terms over the weekend.
Thanks to all of you to a great start!!
