First of all, I was totally surprised and deeply honored to be nominated for the Golden Apple Award. I found out in the morning, and the photographer showed up that same afternoon. He interviewed me for about 10 minutes, and filmed me with my kids for about 15 minutes. I was hoping that what would be shown on TV was the interview part because I said a LOT of good stuff about Pine Tree ISD generally, and Pine Tree High School specifically. I tried to get a teaching position in PTISD for 11 years before God saw fit to bring me here. I am now completing my fifth year as a Pirate, and hope to stay here until I retire (which is at least 3 more years). I'm very proud to be at Pine Tree!!! We are not perfect but, believe me, this place is the Promised Land compared to a LOT of other East Texas districts I've been in!
I am convinced that God called me to be a teacher. I was blessed with attending a brilliant college (National College of Education...now called National-Louis University), and I have served in a broad spectrum of districts across East Texas over a period of 22 years. I feel that all of my life has been leading me to Pine Tree, and specifically, the opportunity to teach Communication Applications at Pine Tree High School. Though I strive to make my class fun, I take my job as an educator very seriously. Communications is all about real-life application, and I want to give my students the skills they need to be Master Communicators, both personally and professionally. |
