Pine Tree 6th, 7th, and 8th grade UIL academic teams recently garnered numerous awards during their Pine Tree Middle School meet. Pine Tree took home four big #1 trophies again this year for first place in overall scores for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Anna Scholl , Loree Tatum and Donna Jones planned and organized the district UIL meet which hosted a total of seven school districts: including Hallsville, Henderson, Jacksonville, McMichael, Mike Moses, Pine Tree and Whitehouse.

“I would like to say a special thanks to the main organizers as well as all of the volunteer coaches, administrators, and helpers of the events,” said Buster Turner, Middle 7 principal. “It was well organized, exciting and competitive, and it was obvious plenty of planning and effort was given for the meet.”

“I learned a lot in the last few days! Putting on a UIL meet is harder than I ever thought it could be. My feet still hurt!” commented one of the organizers, Donna Jones. “The biggest thing I learned was that my coaches can do more than coach!"

“I want to thank everyone who took time and worked the meet; they did an outstanding job” said junior high campus principal, Bob Jeter. “I cannot tell you how many compliments were given on how well the meet was run.”

The UIL 8th graders claimed the district championship as first place team winners in Art, Spelling, Calculator, Dictionary, Number Sense, Math, Social Studies, and Listening Skills. The eighth grade team also placed second in Science. Individual 8th grade winners included the following: Andrea Boyd – 1st Art; Veronica Vasquez – 1st Spelling, Social Studies; Pooja Reddy – 1st Calculator, Number Sense; 2nd Math; Mackenzie Dunn – 1st Prose Reading, Impromptu; Jesse Morgan – 1st Poetry Reading; Jacob Mayhall – 1st Listening Skills; Abbie Herberger – 1st Maps, Graphs, & Charts, 2nd Dictionary Skills; Amy Butler – 1st Dictionary Skills, 3rd Spelling; Josh Schulik – 1st Math, 2nd Science, Calculator, 3rd Number Sense; Ashlie Fellers – 3rd Ready Writing; Jessica Livesey – 3rd Editorial Writing, 5th Impromptu, 6th Ready Writing; Raquel Fuertes – 3rd Art; Catrine Johnson – 2nd Spelling, 3rd Dictionary Skills, Social Studies; Molly McGuire – 3rd Calculator, 6th Poetry Reading; Shereef Ehlalwagi – 2nd Number Sense, 3rd Math; Jennifer Oxsheer – 2nd Poetry; Austin Fleming – 2nd Social Studies; Kirstie Littlejohn – 6th Impromptu; Briatni West – 4th Modern Oratory; Nikole Stoldt – 6th Modern Oratory; Adam Allen – 6th Science; Frances Messer – 4th Listening Skills. Coaches for the 8th grade are Anna Scholl, Susan Sutton, Jan Riley, Loree Tatum, Kelly Peterson, Tina Burns, and Sandy Williams.

Pine Tree 7th grade teams won first place in Art, Calculator, Dictionary Skills, Number Sense, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The seventh grade team also placed second in Maps, Graphs, & Charts; they placed 3rd in Spelling. First place status went to the 6th grade Art, Maps, Graphs, & Charts, Calculator, Number Sense, and Listening Skills teams. The 6th grade teams also placed 2nd in Music Memory, Math, Science; 3rd in Spelling, Social Studies.
