I LOVE reading and I LOVE first graders! I have been teaching young children for over 23 years; it has been an incredible opportunity to be a reading specialist for the past 14 years. The gift of reading is one of the most powerful tools a child can receive during his or her first years of schooling. Thus, I feel extremely blessed to participate in a child’s acquisition of literacy skills.
On a more personal side, I am married and have 2 children (a son and a daughter). Also, I am a grandmother of two fantastic grandsons who are incredible blessings in my life. Time spent with them is always FUN! My only pet is a fat cat named Socks Sooner. He is spoiled rotten and loves all the attention of being the one and only pet around the house! My hobbies are gardening, reading, traveling, sewing and trying out new recipes.
I can still vividly remember my first day at Pine Tree Elementary---I shyly walked into Mrs. Stone’s room holding my father’s hand and spotted a red construction paper apple on a small wooden desk with my name on it. From the first grade through graduation, Pine Tree provided a solid foundation to pursue my dreams. I earned a B.S. degree from Stephen F. Austin University, and a Master's of Education from the University of Texas at Tyler. I have both Secondary Education and Early Childhood certifications. In addition, I continue to study reading in post-graduate work through the University of Texas at Tyler.
It is my desire to never forget what it feels like to be a shy first grader in the very unique setting of “school” and to provide each child with the confidence and foundation to pursue his or her dreams.
