On 10-26-06 Officers from Longview Police Departments SWAT team Activated a Diversionary device as they entered a classroom located on the PTMS campus to apprehend Student Trevor Evans who was holding 3 students and an administrator hostage. Trevor was taken into custody without incident.

This was the conclusion of a 4 hour training senario held at the campus to help improve Longview Emergancy response teams reaction to an active shooter situation.

Trevor was barricaded in the classroom with a training rifle that simulated gunfire. After several hours of speaking with a member of the Longview Police Departments Negotiation unit Trevor was expecting a Pizza that he demanded but instead got a set of hand cuffs.

The Longview Police Department would like to thank the school district as well as Trevor Evans, Brittany Bobbit, Carmen Garza, Jarrod Simpson, Megan Stephenson, James Metcalf, Katy Rawlings, Usha Patel, David Jereb and Theresa Kerr for acting out the roles that made this senario so realistic.

On 10-12-06 Terry Berrett and the students in Student council advised Mr. Mixon that they would like to donate $1000 to go towards improving security measures on the high school campus. Mr. Mixon is currently researching possible security upgrades to determine what would be the best use for this money.... Thanks Stuco!!!

On 10-05-06 School Staff security Committee met to discuss security concerns and set a date on the Safety audit. The team decided to perform the audit on 10-10-06

Pursuant to Texas SB 11, PTHS is in the process of completing the mandated Texas School Safety Center School security audit. This committee will review the results of the School Safety Audit and assist in compiling a report and School Security plan to Mr. Lynn Whitaker.

On. 10-10-06 the committee Met and performed the audit and will meet again on 10-17-06 to finalize the report.

On 10-12-06 the district committee met and decided that the senate bill 11 audits shall be ready for presentation to the school board during the december board meeting

Mr. Mixon is in the process of purchasing the visitor screening program V-Soft which alerts school staff when unsafe visitors attempt to gain access to the school. The district security committee has decided to use the high school campus as a pilot program for this and will consider district wide application after the pilot program is complete.

PTHS Administration is currently working to add additional cameras to the current digital video system

Maintenance has completed construction of a gate that will change the flow of traffic onto the High school campus. At the begining of Oct. Mr. Mixon requested a gate on the entrance to the teacher/visitor parking area that would redirect traffic to a single entrance located on Northwest drive during the school day to discourage unneeded traffic onto the grounds.
