Meet Mrs. Martin, Director PT Precision

Hello and welcome to the Dance Department! I am Cindy Martin and I am in my sixth year as dance instructor at the high school. This is my 17th year as a drill team director and I have had teams participating in performances in London, New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and at the Cotton Bowl. They have also had the privilege of performing for the Carnival cruise line and for former President Bush. I have three children and my youngest is a senior at Pine Tree. My daughter is a junior at Baylor University (my alma mater), and my oldest son just got married.

The Dance Department has three facets. We have the Pine Tree Precision Dance Team whose purpose is to encourage quality performance, academic standards, loyal school spirit and high personal values among its members. Through the development of dance technique, leadership, cooperation, self-discipline and sportmanship in each individual member, the Precision will fulfill its purpose for Pine Tree High School and the community. The team performs at sporting events, community functions and produces a complete stage production in the Spring. Members are chosen through a tryout procedure in the Spring.

The second facet of the Dance Department is the Precision Prep class offered to ninth grade students interested in trying out for the Precision Dance Team. This class is treated as a JV drill team and is modeled after skills that are expected in drill team. Basic dance/drill team technique is taught as each individual is offered opportunities to improve her personal abilities and knowledge in dance. They are provided performance opportunities at a junior high pep rally and in the Precision's Spring production.

The third facet of the Dance Department is dance classes offered as a fine arts credit. These classes are available to any high school student who wishes to explore different dance styles and techniques through dance history and various dance exercises. Units on ballet, jazz, tap, modern and folk dance provide the student many opportunities to develop self-confidence and an appreciation for using their body as an expressive instrument.

As you can see, we offer something for everyone in the Dance Department. We exemplify Plato's philosophy, "To sing well and to dance is to be well-educated".
