Tips for new drill team families

Tips and suggestions from past and current members:

1. Please come to booster meetings and volunteer for things. You are really needed to make the year successful!

2. Extra costs/expenses to consider:
Family gifts, football boy treats, band treats, hamburger dinner Blitz weekend, breakfasts for girls, extra costume pieces to buy, extra hose for performances, t-shirts, make-up you might have to replace, banquet tickets, formal dresses (hair, shoes, etc.), group pictures (football program), personal ad’s for spring show and secret gifts for the girls.

3. Use a laundry basket or drill team bag to keep all your drill team clothes in. Wash the clothes on the weekend and put them in the basket or bag and leave them there for the week.

4. Bring your camera with you to all functions. Pictures always come in handy and are needed later for spring show.

5. Ask questions; seek out moms of returning girls and ask questions. Remember, your daughter is working so hard – support with a smile. Always check & double check that your daughter has all the items needed.

6. When you hear what the theme is for the year (last year was bees), start buying little things for gifts…this group gives lots of gifts!!!

7. Advice; Get Involved!!! That is the only way you will meet the other parents. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

8. Flexibility is the key. Always be prepared to spend more – prepare for dresses, hair, etc!

9. Plan to budget a little extra if you’re on a tight budget because there are always little things that come up.

10. Make being a big sister or little sister a big deal! Have something special, using the team theme, ready to give to your family members or someone special on the team. Also, if you are the big sister, be a MENTOR and a FRIEND!

11. Having two pair of boots is a good thing! You can practice in one pair without worrying about having to clean them for the game. The second pair is always clean and ready to go for the game. Call a graduating senior and ask them for their old boots if they are your size. If their boots are larger, wear big socks!

12. DON’T BE SHY. GET OUT AND TALK TO OTHER PARENTS. THEY ARE REALLY NICE AND SUPPORTIVE.
