Reading should be a positive experience for everyone. Students will read many different types of text throughout the year. We are using the Reading textbook along with novels and newspapers. Comprehension tests are given with an open book. A vocabulary quiz follows the next day. A journal entry is given daily as part of the student's reading grade. We also have time set aside for AR reading.

Language breaks many barriers. It is a vital part of our daily lives. We cover a variety of skills this year.We will use many different materials to keep things fun and interesting for all. Quizzes and tests are given weekly depending on material covered. We will also have an "out of the ordinary" word each week to broaden our vocabulary. Students store them in their Word War booklets and compete for rewards.

Spelling trial tests are given on Thursday. If the trial test is passed with 100%, students are exempt from Friday's test. Students recieve a Spelling Packet at the beginning of the week. All students have the entire week to complete it. Packets are due on Fridays. A completed Packet can earn a student 4 possible points to raise their weekly Spelling Test grade if needed.
