9th GRADE WORLD GEOGRAPHY
Course Description
World Geography is designed to provide students with knowledge regarding the physical and human geography of our world; to enable students to understand the inter-relatedness of religions and cultures around the globe.

Course Objectives
Enable the student to:
• Utilize maps, globes, photographs, etc.
• Analyze and critique how physical and ecological processes effect the planet and its inhabitants, and vice versa
• Recognize regions and how they differ from one-another
• Locate and analyze the physical, cultural, and economic characteristics of the planet’s regions
• Compare/contrast various aspects of human population within a country or region
• Analyze the global and local patterns of economies and their interdependence
• Interpret the past, understand the present, and plan for the future using geographical knowledge

Lesson Plans
Monday

Objective: The students will study the unique culture and history of Japan and South Korea. The students will see what kind of climates and natural resources of Japan and South Korea. They will learn how the land is being used and what kind of economy Japan and South Korea uses today.

Activity: The student will finish and grade chapter 28 packet, then the will start on the Chapter 28 Review. .

Tuesday/Wednesday

Objective: The students will study the unique culture and history of Japan and South Korea. The students will see what kind of climates and natural resources of Japan and South Korea. They will learn how the land is being used and what kind of economy Japan and South Korea uses today.

Activity: The students will take a Test over Chapter 28.

Objective: The students will study a Country and learn how to create one for themselves by looking in each chapter and following the layout of how the book describes the country’s history, culture, climate, economy, and natural resources.

Activity: Start a Project. The students will create their own country

Sociology
Course Description
In this course, we will see how sociologists explain human behavior and how it is different from other disciplines. We will also see what makes sociology a science and why is it important to look at the world around us sociologically. We will take a look at pioneering works of sociologists and will address various issues like discrimination, poverty, crime, and racial and gender stereotypes. Together we will see how sociology debunks various myths surrounding these issues.

"To provide students with an undrstanding of: the structural and institutional aspects of a democratic society at the local, regional and national level: the interrelationship of the various sectors of society: and the relevance of social / civic policy-making for the individual and society as a whole. It is also intended to enable students to take effective actions and make decisions as responsible citizens and to be conscious of their rights and duties as a member of society, as a citizen of the state and as a member of the community".

Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
a) Demonstrate knowledge of basic sociological concepts about social processes and social institutions b) understand theoretical or explanatory arguments in sociology c) apply these arguments to contemporary events or personal experience d) display knowledge of cultural, class, religious, and other differences within and between societies.
