Congratulations to Lady Pirate diver Lindsey Conway for being selected to the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-State Team for 2009 – 2010.
Also, for making the State TMEA band.

DECA State competition |

John Tillery, a senior at Pine Tree High School, was a finalist in Restaurant and Food Service Management at the DECA State competition. He will be competing at the International DECA competition in April.
John will be attending Baylor University School of Business in the fall to study Restaurant and Hotel Management.

4A Regional Diving Competition |

Congratulations to Lady Pirate diver Lindsey Conway for taking the gold medal at the 4A Regional Diving competition in Conroe. Lindsey set a new Regional record with a score of 401.45, and qualified to compete at the State Diving competition to be held in Austin in two weeks.

The Pine Tree Tennis Team won 1st Place in the 2010 Eastman High School Tennis Tournament on Saturday in Longview. Shelby Hart won 1st place in girls singles. Hart defeated Megan Cameron from Springhill 6-1,7-6 to capture the title. In boys doubles, James Short and Zack Simons took 2nd place. Ashley Fischer and Holly Fountain finished 2nd in girls doubles. Justin Harrison and Anna Chamness were 3rd in mixed doubles. Trey Jeffers finished 3rd in boys singles.

Kilgore College Art Symposium and Scholarship Contest |

The Kilgore College Art Symposium and Scholarship Contest is open to all art students in the region 7 area and affords the opportunity for Seniors to compete for scholarship to Kilgore College. It also provides teachers and students a way to see what other student artists are doing in area schools. Senior participants display their portfolios for all to view and judges critique work and choose scholarship winners. Judges also discuss their own work and art experiences with the student and teacher audience. We are proud to announce that 6 Pine Tree seniors won scholarship and honorable mention this year. They are:
1st place Louis Graham Award for art excellence- $2000.00 went to Caitlin Turner
3rd place $1200.00 scholarship went to Erica Latta
4th place $1000.00 scholarship went to Margaret Austin
5th place $1000.00 scholarship went to Emily Phelps
Honorable mention went to Hannah Gamble and Sara Torres

District SKILLS Competition |

The following welding students competed at district SKILLS competition Friday and Saturday and qualified for the state competition with either their projects or hands on skills.

The Automotive class also had 3 students qualify for the state competition with their projects.

Region IX Texas Academic Decathlon Competition |

On January 29 and 30, PTHS Academic Decathlon team competed in the Region IX Texas Academic Decathlon Competition. Pine Tree placed 8th place out of 15 teams with a total score of 30,710. Caitlin Turner, Lizzi Davis and Steven Hawkins received the highest scores among their divisions for Pine Tree. Caitlin Turner placed 2nd in the Essay competition and Steven Hawkins placed 3rd in the Language and Literature competition. Congratulations to those students!

Secondary PTA Recognizes Winners Who Define Beauty |

PTA Reflections, part of a nationwide 30-year-old program, encourages students to create works of visual art, music, literature, photography, dance choreography and film/video productions. Students from Pine Tree High School and Junior High who won Council Awards of Excellence were recognized at a ceremony on Thursday, January 28th at 7 p.m. in the Pine Tree Community Center. Congratulations to the following students who were awarded for their interpretation of the theme: “Beauty Is...”

PTHS Students Earn Awards at Business Professionals of America Conference |

Seven Pine Tree students from Pine Tree High School competed against 45 chapters at the Regional Leadership Conference for Business Professionals of America Convention this last weekend in Frisco, Texas. Two students have advanced to the state level and will compete in Ft. Worth, Texas on March 3 - 6, 2010. Sara Tirado placed 1st in Entrepreneurship and D'Anzia Robertson placed 2nd in Digital Media Production. In addition, Sophia Rossow placed 3rd in Financial Math & Analysis and the Web Site Design Team with Vanna Norman, Frances Messer, and D'Anzia Robertson placed 4th.
“Congratulations to these students,” said their sponsor Regina Darby. “I am sure they will do well at the state level in March!”
BPA (Business Professionals of America) is a national organization for students preparing for careers in business management, office administration, information/computer technology, and other related career fields. BPA is open to all PTHS students and all members will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships, maintain leadership opportunities, receive National Technical Honor Society recognition, and obtain career information. In addition, BPA prepares students to succeed and assess real-world business skills and problem solving abilities in finance, management, information technology, and computer applications. Likewise, our chapter will participate in competitive events this year at the regional, state, and national level in the following categories: financial services, administrative support, information technology, and management/marketing/human resources.

Greater Longview Area Tennis Invitational |

Shelby Hart won 1st place in girls singles in the Greater Longview Area Tennis Invitational on Friday. Hart defeated Kara Chitty of Van in the final by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Ashley Fischer and Holly Fountain placed 2nd in girls doubles. In boys singles, Trey Jeffers took third. Zack Simmons and James Short also placed third in boys doubles. Justin Harrison and Anna Chamness were semifinalists in mixed doubles. Congratulations to our Pirate Tennis Team.

Pine Tree High School had 53 student participate in Whitehouse for the VASE ( Visual Arts Scholastic Event) regional and area meet. Out of the 53 students, 36 advanced to area and out of these students 11 were selected to compete in the state competition. |

Eight DECA students competed in the fields of Marketing, Finance, Business and Entrepreneurship at the State DECA competition this past weekend.
One of our chapter members, John Tillery, was a top finalist in Restaurant and Food Service Management! He will represent Pine Tree High School at the upcoming International Competition in Louisville, KY in April.

Region III Leadership Conference |

The Pine Tree High School Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the Region III Leadership Conference held in Plano on February 18-20th. Maci Martin, Katie Guillory and Katee Hoyle all competed in STAR Events (Students Taking Action With Recognition). Jessica Marshall attended eadership tracts and is going to bring back all the great information and skills to teach to our local chapter.
These events allow members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition.
In order to advance on to state you must be ranked first through sixth in your category out of several other schools competing for the same title. The following girls advanced to state with the rankings of:
