I AM SO GLAD TO BE AT PINE TREE
Hello. I am Maggie Soderberg or “ Miss Maggie” as the students call me. I am the new Counselor here at Pine Tree Intermediate School. Before becoming a Counselor, I was a kindergarten and first grade teacher. Since becoming a Counselor, I have worked with Junior High School students and Pre-K through third grade students in other districts. I live here in Longview and am very glad to be working in my home community. I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone at Pine Tree. SOME WAYS I CAN MEET WITH YOUR STUDENT
I tell the students that a counselor’s job is to be a “good friend”, whether it is with a student, a parent, or a teacher. Parents and teachers can come by my office or can contact me on the phone. Students can visit with the Counselor three ways. They can be referred to see me by their parents, recommended by their teachers, or they can request to see me themselves. I can see students individually, in small, special interest groups, which I try to do at lunch, or in the classroom. When I go into the classroom to do large group guidance, I will focus on character education. This year we will again use the Core Essentials Program provided for us by Chick-fil-A for character education. The traits that we will explore during this school year include: September-Initiative, October-Respect, November-Uniqueness, December-Peace, January-Orderliness, February-Kindness, March-Courage, April-Joy, and May-Patience. We will send home information each month about the character trait on which we are focusing. We ask that you encourage its development in the home setting. We realize that parents are our students’ first and most important teachers.
