Transportation
School begins at 8:00 and ends at 3:00. For the safety of your child, he/she must go home everyday in the usual way UNLESS I have a NOTE from you. If a change is to occur, please send me a note, or for an unexpected change, notify the office, and I will receive the message. The children are not allowed to go home with a friend if it means riding a bus other than their own. If your child is to walk home or ride a bicycle, please send me a note giving your permission.
Lunch
Student lunches are $1.75, breakfast is $1.25, and extra milk is $.25. Lunch accounts are available in the cafeteria using your child’s name and school ID number. Money can be paid into the account at any time. You and your child need to keep up with your child’s account to minimize charges. After 3 charges your child will be served a sandwich instead of a lunch tray. Please send lunch money in an envelope marked with your child's name, room number, and amount of money enclosed.
Schedule
Library and computer classes will begin soon. Please make sure your child brings the library books to school each day because we have a time for reading them during class! A schedule of library and computer classes will be listed on our class schedule page soon.
Homework
Reading- Our goal is to encourage each child to read and to develop a lifelong love of reading. As with anything else we learn to do-the more practice we receive, the more skilled we become, and the more we enjoy it. With this in mind, your child will need to read for at least 20 minutes every evening. He will bring a library book home every night to read. Please make sure the library book is returned to school daily because he will also have a silent reading time at school.
Math-Each child will need to memorize the basic addition and subtraction facts this year. Please work with flashcards to help your child memorize the facts to 18. Additional math homework will be sent home every Thursday to review skills that need to be reinforced.
Spelling-A spelling list will be given on Monday and will consist of words in a certain spelling pattern each week. Please help your child review the words each evening. Spelling tests will be administered every Friday.
Please be aware that any work not completed during class time will also be considered homework and it is due the next day.
Take Home Folder
Each child will bring home a folder everyday. The purpose of the folder is to instill organizational skills and to ensure good communication between home and school. Please check this folder every afternoon for notes, homework and graded papers. Be sure your child brings this folder to school every morning!
Graded Papers
Graded papers will be placed in a pocket of the take home folder. Please check daily for work sent home. This will allow you to congratulate great work and help with anything that may have been a problem.
Grading
There are four reporting periods during the year. Report cards will usually be sent home on the Friday following the end of each grading period. Check the Classroom Calendar to see when each report card will come home. We will have two scheduled conferences (Fall & Spring). Please don't hesitate to contact me anytime you have a question or concern.
Class Parties
We will have four parties this year: Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and End of Year. Please sign up to help with these parties.
Absences
Anytime your child is absent from school please send a written excuse explaining the absence on the day your child returns to school.
Medication
If your child must take medication of any kind (prescriptions, aspirin, cough syrup, etc…) please send it to school with a note stating the time it is to be taken. I will see that our school nurse gets it and administers it to your child at the proper time. Please remember that the medication cannot be administered unless the nurse has written permission from the parent/guardian.
Birthdays
You may send a special treat for the class to help celebrate your child's birthday. If sending party invitations please send one to each member of the class or ask for a class list so that you can mail them from home.
Water Bottles
During the year, especially the hot summer/spring months, the students may bring a water bottle to sit on their desk. The water bottle must have a pop- up lid to minimize spills. Please send it in a sock to prevent condensation on the desk and papers. White sport socks work well for this purpose!
