Most of our grammar and writing will be done in the classroom. If an assignment is not finished during classtime, then it will be for homework. An occasional homework assignment may be assigned for extra practice.

We will be starting Writing Workshop toward the end of the first six weeks. Your child will learn how to take a story or paper all the way through the complete writing process. We will begin with a rough draft. We will then revise, edit, and finally publish their writing. I will be actively monitoring and helping them through the stages of writing. Each student's writing will be graded based on content, grammar skills, and how well they follow the writing process.

Writing workshop will be continued throughout the whole year.

Spelling lists will be given every week. Occasionally, we will not have a spelling list when we are working on a composition or project. Please check the weekly assignments page to see if a spelling list is given for a certain week. The students will have classroom assignments and homework to help reinforce the words for that week.

The tests will be given on Friday. Little time will be given in class to study the words, so it is the students' responsibility to study for their spelling tests on their own time.

Students can make up any grade below a 70 to receive a 70. It is the student's responsibility to ask for a make up assignment if needed. If an assignment is not turned in, it will be recorded in the grade book as a zero. If absent, the student is responsible for collecting missed assignments and turning them in ASAP. Extra time will be given to those students who are absent and miss assignments.

I am extremely excited to have this group of sixth graders this year. If we all work hard together I am sure that we will have a wonderful and successful year!
