Education is NEVER Given; It Is TAKEN By Demanding Students Desiring Success!

Hello Pine Tree Parents:
I welcome you and your student to my Physics classes. Whether your child is in General, pre-AP, or AP Physics, I look forward to the challenge of opening their eyes to the physical world around them and the futures ahead of them. I will GUARANTEE that every student will see the world differently after all of the material we cover in Physics. The education of your student is a shared responsibility of all of us and I will do my part enthusiastically.

The students will be in a constant state of discomfort! And that is what must happen.  Just as a weightlifter or other athlete is always sore - indicating regeneration of stronger muscle due to the workout - the Physics student will always be covering material that will require mental exercise that will leave the student "tired".

I have very extended tutorial hours so even students in extra-curricular activities can still get the extra help they may need at times. I also have a Facebook presence and can be reached for “virtual tutorials” that can be observed by others through this resource.

Junior Year

Most the students taking these classes aure Juniors. This is very fitting as the Junior year signals the end of “childhood” and a call to the student to start seeing the world as they want to participate in it as adults. Physics at every level is a college preparatory class and will require a higher level of rigor and effort than classes in the past. I treat the students as young adults – with all of the choices and consequences that young adults should be able to handle. This may be a dramatic change for some of the students but will force them to learn valuable skills that will help them in the near future and throughout their adult lives.

A schedule of dates for labs, tests, due dates, etc. will be kept ONLY in the classroom on a calendar and will be posted at least two weeks in advance. I force students to start being responsible, on their own, for assignments and deadlines. I hope you share this view with me.

Each student in Physics is preparing for a test (or tests!) at the end of the school year. I look forward to the challenge of preparing these students for every test, whether it is the TAKS Exit, ACT, SAT, or AP Test. We will prepare throughout the full year to ensure the best chance of each student’s success on these tests and put them in the best possible position when applying to colleges. At any time, parents are encouraged to come and observe our classes. If this makes your student uncomfortable, you can visit one of the other classes. The following list are my classes and conference periods.

  • 1st Period (Everyday) – General Physics
  • 2nd Period (A - Days) – pre-AP Physics
  • 3rd Period (B - Days) – pre-AP Physics
  • 4th Period (A-Days) – General Physics
  • 5th Period (B-Days) – General Physics
  • 6th Period (Everyday) - Conference Period
  • 7th Period (Everyday) – AP Physics
  • 8th Period (Everyday) – General Physics

Let me know if you want anything different on this website and I will see if my limited abilities can deliver! I appreciate all of my students and parents and like to hear from each and every one of you.
Sincerely,

Joe Kirchhoff
