A lot has changed at Pine Tree High School since the 1960s — the location, the number of students, the hairstyles, the sports. Now it's Pete the Pirate's turn to join that list. After 40 lonely years up on a pole, the only new thing to happen to Pete was getting shot in the chest (he's doing fine). Other than that, the pirate just aged. He chipped, faded and rusted, and gradually accumulated more and more bird nests. Then, a month ago, a group of Pine Tree alumni concerned about their former mascot decided to give ol' Pete a facelift. "It's real nice," said Kyran Ransom, 17, one of the 54 auto shop students who worked on Pete. "We made him look a lot younger."
