Reading - We have begun the novel, "I.M.Fine" (I know the title needs to be underlined, but I can't get it to work on this program. Sorry! This is a good mystery novel and suitable for our grade level and students. TAKS Objectives for this week include Sequencing and Author's Purpose plus all objectives covered so far this year in a quick review. We are also working on comparing across texts through TAKS strategies and passages. Many of these objectives are discussed as we go in class without just stopping and say, "We are working on the objective of....." I like for the students to reason out, evaluate scenarios in discussion with critical thinking and not just focusing on saying...."This is ..... on paper." Be assured, we are covering all the objectives and apply them without them even realizing it at times. Smile!
Spelling - Students are working on a new list of spelling words, Lesson 17: using critical thinking skills from GT training exercises.
Language Arts - Use of adjectives, their purpose, and implementing them into their own writings and poetry. Previously learned skills, using a type of Language Arts called Mountain Language is covered a couple of times each week. It is a good, effective way to reinforce many skills at one time throughout the year.
Social Studies - Chapter 14 "The American Revolution" - Students are doing a Revolutionary War Project that is due no later than Jan. 20th. We will go to the computer lab as needed for research.
Language Arts - I will read a small story about bridges. Students will do a small group project constructing your own bridge to specific criteria. Smile! You will create this bridge out of a 2 inch stack of newspapers and masking tape. I'll give you specifics Monday to go home and bring materials with you. Do not go out and buy anything. We will tie this into writing, as well. I can't wait to see your finished products. You will have to have your thinking caps and good social working skills to complete this task in the time given. Smile! Good luck!!! |
