Unit 4- Strength training
Unit 5- Pilates/Flexibility
Unit 6- Bowling
Class objectives:
*Fitness for Life covers a variety of activities and exercises used to reach out to individuals’ unique interests.
*Flexibility is important in preventing injury and increasing an individual's performance. The students do a series of stretches before and after activities.
*Cardiovascular awareness and improvement are measured through the student's heart rate which we will monitor. This gives them the knowledge of how hard they need to exercise to have an effect on their fitness levels.
*This Fitness for Life class emphasizes maintaining a proper diet, body weight, and health issues. The students will learn the relationship between body weight, body fat, and how it affects individual health.
Rules/Guidelines:
Students must be safely and appropriately dressed for dynamic activity. The intent of rules and guidelines for proper attire is for the best possible educational experience for all students. Our intent is for all students to have an effective Physical Education class in reference to safety, hygiene and performance. All students must maintain their efforts and focus on the objective and goals of the Physical Education curriculum. Cooperation is the main element to success!

In addition to following the rules in the PTHS 2007-2008 Student Handbook, these are MY guidelines in Fitness for Life that need to be followed in order to be successful, safe, and efficient.
1. NO gum/food in workout area
2. NO cell phones/electronics
3. NO fighting
4. NO stealing
5. NO jewelry
6. Follow directions given by Coach Metcalf
7. Be courteous to others
Grade/Evaluation:
Our physical education curriculum is based on participation, skill development, and Unit exams. Credit is earned based on the student being physically punctually present, in a uniform, and being capable of performing basic physical education activities. Our department deducts 5 points daily from the daily participation grade for each tardy. Should another teacher detain a student, she must get a pass from that teacher before returning to PE. Each student is issued a locker, a pair of shorts, and a t-shirt. They are are responsible for bringing tennis shoes for class workout. You must come to class on time and prepared!
Test grades:
Start off with a 50
Wear 1 item = 55
Wear 2 items = 60
Wear 3 items = 65
Behavior points = 5 possible
Participation points = 30 possible

At the end of each unit, an “end of unit” exam will be assessed covering the activities recently completed. Each daily dress grade is counted as a “test” grade to push the importance of participating.
