Reading
Each week we will have a focus story that will tie in with specific reading skills and spelling patterns.
Every Monday a reader will be sent home to read aloud to an adult and sent back on Friday. Also there will be other books sent to reinforce vocabulary and improve fluency.
Spelling
A spelling list will be sent home on Monday and the test is usually on Thursday.

Math
Our math in second grade includes Bridges in Mathematics and other teacher resources to introduce and reinforce math skills.
The three segements of our math program are:
1. Number Corner- Interactive
calendar board which
introduces and reinforces
math skills all year long.
2. Problems and Investigations
Whole group lessons that
teach key skills and concepts
in the context of problem
solving.
3. Work Places - Extend and
enhance children's math
skills throughout the year

Math homework will usually be sent home on Tuesday and Thursday. Parents are encouraged to help their child.

Please continue reinforcing basic math skills at home, such as addition/subtraction fact, telling time, and recognizing and counting coins to $1.00.
