We will have our benchmark testing this week. I thought this would be easier on the children than waiting after Spring Break!

Our classes music program will be on Thursday, March 6 at 2:00 in the 2nd grade music room. The children have worked really hard on their program.

Hi! My name is Mrs. Williams and this is my fourth year of teaching first grade! I love first grade! I am married and have a toddler who keeps me very busy. My favorite color is yellow and I love Red Hots candy. My favorite T.V. show is Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe because it is disgusting! I can't wait to meet all my new little Pirates!

In our language arts curriculum, we concentrate on spelling, capitalization, punctuation, simple and compound sentences, handwriting and vocabulary. We stress punctuation everyday to reinforce using a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and using the correct punctuation at the end of the sentence.

We create many different opportunities for writing. We write as a class for reinforcement. The children will write many times in groups, centers and on their own. We have really neat ways for the children to share their writing.

We use the Bridges in Math system for teaching math in 1st grade. This program uses hands on approaches to teach math skills and concepts. Instead of timed tests, the children learn through exploration and discovery. They have so much fun they forget they're learning. We teach numbers, patterns, odd/even, eqations, fact families, addition, subtraction, two-digit addition, tally marks, ship counting by 2, 5 and 10, measurement, time and money.
