CLASS TIME
School begins at 8:00. Please make sure your child is on time each day. Students that arrive after the tardy bell rings will be required to go to the office for a tardy slip. Tardiness not only interrupts the class, but also wastes valuable instrutction time. Thank you!
ABSENCES
Please send a note to school anytime your child is absent. If you would like to pick up missed work for your child, please notify the office before lunch. I will have the work ready for you to pick up at dismissal time in the office.
LEAVING EARLY
If your child needs to be picked up early, please send a note ahead of time. All students must be signed our through the office. This is for your child's protection. Your child will be notified by the office staff and will MEET YOU IN THE OFFICE.
MEDICATION
All medications can ONLY be administered by our school nurse. Please contact her if your child needs to take medications during the school hours. If your child has a health problem, please plan to visit with the school nurse so she can better meet the needs of your child.
TRANSPORTATION
Please make sure your child knows how he/she is getting home each day. If your child's afternoon transportation changes, please send a note so that we can help your child remember what to do at the end of the day. A written or faxed note MUST be sent to the office notifying of any last minute transportation changes. NO PHONE CALLS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR TRANSPORTATION CHANGES.
DAILY WORK CORRECTIONS
Students will be given the opportunity to correct failing DAILY GRADES for a maximum of 70. NO corrections on tests are allowed. Corrections should be done in pen with the original answer still visible. All corrections must be returned to the teacher within one week to apply to current report card. All papers returned after the closing of a 6 week period will not be accepted. STUDENTS need to make the corrections. All work needs to be in the student's own handwriting or they will not be accepted.
CONDUCT GRADES
The behavior report keeps you updated on your child's weekly conduct. Each child starts off each six weeks with a "100" conduct grade. Each time a rule is broken he/she will receive a sign in on their weekly behavior chart. Each sign in is worth 1 point.
BIRTHDAYS
Birthdays are special and birthday treats are lots of fun! IF you would like to furnish treats please do! According to the state nutrition policy we are allowed to serve them anytime AFTER lunch. Birthday invitations may ONLY be sent if EVERYONE in class is being invited.
LUNCH
If your child does not bring a lunch from home please make sure they have money or credit in the lunchroom. You may pay for lunch credits in the morning or during lunch time or online at www.ptisd.org. If a problem occurs with your child's lunch account, contact the cafeteria. Teachers DO NOT have access to this information.
ACCELERATED READER
The goal of the AR program is to motivate the students to enjoy reading, increase comprehension, reading fluency and increase their ability to become independent, self-directed readers and learners. Accelerated reading is used in connection with quality reading lessons. It is a part of our reading curriculum. Each student has an individual goal that needs to be met weekly. They are also to maintain an 80% or above on their reading comprehension. Please help your child accomplish this goal. Parents are encouraged to read to and read with their children. Reading aloud with your child offers a perfect model for what a fluent reader should sound like.
