Academic and Behavior Guidelines
SUPPLIES
1. A sturdy 2-inch, 3-ring loose-leaf notebook
2. Loose-leaf wide-lined paper
3. Dividers (5) for notebook
4. Red pen for grading
5. Blue or black pens for assignments
6. Pencil for Scantron
7. Blue, pink, yellow, green, and orange hi-liters
8. Recommended: Thesaurus for home/school use
9. Box of Kleenex
NOTEBOOKS
You are required to keep a notebook. The purpose is to help you be organized and resourceful. Your Class Notes section provides an excellent test review source.
Use five dividers with these headings:
1. Syllabus/Grade Sheet/Policy
2. Class Notes
3. Current Assignment(s)
4. Paper
5. Graded Homework
ASSIGNMENTS
1. Do your best work on every assignment!
2. Listen carefully to instructions and explanations. Then, if you do not understand, please ask for clarification.
3. All work must be written in blue or black ink.
4. NO ASSIGNMENTS will be accepted late unless you have been absent.
5. It is your responsibility to check the Syllabus for make-up work, pull notes
and handouts from the basket, arrange for extra help when needed, and schedule
make-up tests when absent.
GRADES
1. The work you do in English III becomes part of your permanent record.
2. Do your own work. This includes homework and classwork. We will frequently have the
opportunity to work in groups. Learning from others is encouraged; copying is not.
3. The six-weeks grade will be determined as follows:
a. Minor Grades (40%) will be based on daily work and quizzes.
b. MAJOR Grades (60%) will be based on major tests, book reports, projects, and writing assignments.
BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES
Objective: To behave in a way that encourages every student to learn.
Rules:
1. Be seated, ready to work, when the tardy bell rings.
2. If you do not have your notebook, textbook, or other supplies, you will be required to write a statement telling why you do not have them. You must date and sign the statement.
3. Follow written and oral directions. (This includes the rules governed by school policy.)
4. Participate actively and appropriately in all class assignments.
5. Respect the rights and property of others.
Consequences:
If you choose to break one of the classroom rules, the following consequences will occur:
1. For the first offense, a verbal warning.
2. If the behavior persists, further behavior instructions which may include a new seating assignment and/or parental contact..
3. Continued misbehavior will result in detention during Tutorial Period in Room 212.
4. If the behavior still persists, referral to the principal for administrative discipline.
5. In the case of severe class disruption, open disrespect, abuse, or fighting, immediate referral to the office for disciplinary action.
