A Tradition of Singing Excellence

CONGRATULATIONS ALL-STATE CHOIR WINNER...MORGHAN PARKER

Welcome to the PTHS Choir

Teaching Philosophy: the choir classroom will be the one place on the campus where all students feel safe, loved, and successful. It is our mission that my students are successful our classroom even when there might be failure in other areas of a student’s life. This philosophy comes with a high standard of excellence on a daily basis both in and out of the classroom. Failure in our classroom, and in the student’s life, is NOT an option.

GRADES

GRADING POLICY

High School Choir is a state-approved curricular course with TEKS that we will achieve

60% Major Grades: ALL PERFORMANCES, in class quizzes and outside of class projects

40% Daily Grades: homework, in class worksheets, daily participation, after school rehearsals

MERIT SYSTEM

Students must earn a minimum of 125 point to earn a place on the bus for the spring trip and to earn a performance spot for Pop Concert. Students earn points by attending choir events and by participating in fund-raising activities.

ATTENDANCE

All choir members are expected to attend all performances, required rehearsals and choir-related functions for the duration of the function. That means, you do not sing and leave…all will wait until the end of the function to be dismissed. You must check out with the supervising adult when you leave an event.

Students will be given a laminated barcode that they must bring with them to all choir events. It is each student’s responsibility to check in with the attendance officer and have their barcode scanned. This will ensure that you receive your grade AND your merit points.

EXCUSED ABSENCE: ONLY family emergencies or severe illness are excused. Documentation must be provided as proof of emergency.A make-up assignment will be given if director is notified PRIOR to event.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Unexcused absences will be assigned a zero
There is no make up for an unexcused absence.

Work, babysitting, transportation issues, etc. are NOT reasons to miss an event

PARENTS: Your child has made a commitment to this program. Please help to support correct and ethical behaviors in regards to absences. If a student experiences difficulty in meeting the grading criteria, his/her placement will be reviewed and changed accordingly.

PUNCTUALITY

Students should arrive 5 or 10 minutes prior to the stated start time of any choir event. The time given is the START time…not the ARRIVAL time. If you arrive ON TIME you will be considered LATE.
