Welcome to Pine Tree Intermediate School
Hello. I am Maggie Soderberg or “Miss Maggie” as the students call me. I am the Counselor here at Pine Tree Intermediate School. Before becoming a Counselor, I was a kindergarten and first grade teacher. Since becoming a Counselor, I have worked with Junior High School students and pre-K through third grade students in other districts. This is my fifth year here at Pine Tree Intermediate School. I live in Longview with my husband and am very glad to be working in my home community. Please contact me here at the school, 903-295-5151 ext. 124 or by email
msoderberg@ptisd.org if I can be of assistance to you.
Some Ways I Can Meet With Your Student
I tell the students that a counselor’s job is to be a “good friend” whether it is with a student, a parent, or a teacher. Parents and teachers can come by my office or they can contact me on the phone or by email. Student can visit with the Counselor three ways. They can be referred to see me by their parents, recommended by their teachers, or they can request to see me themselves. I can see students individually, in small, special interest groups, or in the classroom. When I go into the classroom to do large group guidance, I will focus on the development of social skills.
Additional Information
This year we will again use the Core Essentials Program provided for us by Chick-Fil-A for character Education. We will send home information each month about the character trait on which we are focusing. We ask that you encourage its development in the home setting. We realize that parents are our students’ first and most important teachers.
I will visit the Computer Lab with students early in the school year to guide them through Career Exploration with the PAWS IN JOBLAND program. They will be able to return to the program throughout the school years when they wish to and you will be able to access it from home using the link provided on the Quick Links section of this webpage. Please take the opportunity to discuss and investigate different areas of career interest with your children when time allows.
For your information, this year the fourth grade STARR Writing Test will be administered on March 27 and 28, 2012, third and fourth grade STARR Math on April 24, 2012, and third and fourth grade STARR Reading on April 25th. 2012
Please let me help make this school year pleasant and productive for all of us.
