• Hand Out Vocabulary List for 2nd six weeks
• Read Dr. Seuss’ “Yertle the Turtle” to find a connection between events in the story and historical situations
• Explore the meaning of allegory
• Collaboratively, students will choose an event (historically, ;politically, religiously) and write their own allegory

• Finish Allegory (due at the end of the period – rhyming, illustrations, connection to another situation)

• Discuss Poetry: What is good/bad poetry?
• Hand out, discuss, understand poetic devices
• Hand out FRACTIONS method for analyzing poetry
• Use FRACTIONS method to analyze John Donne’s “The Flea” together as a class

• Use FRACTIONS method to analyze Andrew Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress” as a class
• Assign Poetry Project – (students will choose a poem and apply the “FRACTIONS” process of analyzing poetry then choose from one of three ways to present analysis – handouts/rubrics to be given) DUE 10/17 (A–Day) 10/18 (B–Day) FOR ALL CLASSES
• HW: Study steps for FRACTIONS and poetic devices for a QUIZ!!!

• Use FRACTIONS method to analyze Shakespeare’s “My Mistress’ Eyes” as a class
• QUIZ (Students must know the steps for FRACTIONS and definitions of poetic devices)
