Kindergarten

Our kindergarten curriculum is based on the state developed Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and is vertically aligned with the other grade levels in our district. We provide students with a balanced literacy program in which they have opportunities to develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. By the end of kindergarten students are expected to recognize letters and sounds, identify 22 basic sight words, utilize basic decoding skills, demonstrate knowledge about books and write letters and words. We also provide students with balanced instruction in math through the Bridges in Mathematics program. Time is devoted to whole group, small group, and individualized instruction in which students have an opportunity to develop mathematical thinking and reasoning abilities in such areas as numbers and operations, geometry, probability, data analysis, sorting, patterning, and measurement.

Kindergarten students attend the Writing to Read computer lab for 35 minutes four days a week. The students also attend PE each day and library classes and science lab one time a week. The library is open each afternoon for students to check out books.

Pre-Kindergarten

Our Pre-K classes eat either lunch or breakfast together as a class each day. Pre-K students attend PE classes every other day and library classes one time a week. We strive to provide a quality program that provides a challenging but achievable curriculum that engages students in thinking, reasoning, and communicating with others. Our Pre-K curriculum is based upon the state developed Pre-Kindergarten guidelines. Students are instructed in the areas of language and literacy development, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, and personal, social, and physical development.
Regular attendance is necessary in order for students to achieve the full benefits of Pre-K classes. Mandatory attendance laws are in affect once a child is enrolled in Pre-K.

Report Cards / Conferences

Report cards are sent home with students each nine weeks and parent conference days are scheduled one time each semester.
