At the end of last year, the School Board was approached about considering uniforms at Pine Tree. We decided to wait on the uniforms but one of the things that came out at that meeting was the needs of some of our students. As a result of what we heard that evening, we decided to start a Pine Tree Clothes Closet. Terre Dunn and myself are getting it going with the help of many:
James Skeeler, Asst Superintendent
Cindy Coleman, PTO President
Donna Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator
Sandra Skoog, ex-PT Counselor.
Our vision is to build self-esteem and confidence in our students at Pine Tree through clothes. As one of teachers put it so eloquently that night, “have you ever gone to a party and felt like you were not dressed right, you were either underdressed or overdressed. All you could think about was what you had on and how you wish you had dressed differently. Well, that’s how some our students feel at Pine Tree. They may have on the same shirt for the third day in a row and all they can think about is what they are wearing, not what they are doing in school.” We want to change this issue for the positive. We want to have a place that any student in our district in need of clothes has a place to go.
We are starting slowly and we need your help. We are asking for donations of gently used school clothing. We ask that donated items be cleaned and put on hangers before it is given to the Clothes Closet. We are also asking for monetary donations. We know that there might be something a student needs that we do not have and we will call on our list of donors to purchase items for our store. Our goal is to have the Clothes Closet set up like a retail store. We want these kids to have the experience of going shopping in a boutique.
This is going to be run 100% by volunteers. There are many areas for you to volunteer. For this to be successful, we need your help. If you feel called to do this, please read over the list and let us know what best fits your schedule. Thanks.
