Coats for Kids – Classroom Challenge 2007
“Coats for Kids” is an annual community project that
collects and distributes warm winter coats to eligible children and teenagers
in the Gregg County area. The Coats for Kids Project
is coordinated through Longview Community Ministries.
Each year, partners work together to ensure that the
children of East
Texas stay
warm. Last year, with the help of sponsors and community volunteers, Coats
for Kids distributed approximately 400 coats as well as blue jeans, shoes,
and hand-knitted caps were distributed to needy children in the Longview area. There are many volunteers who
make this project possible.
The Classroom Challenge was again sponsored by KLTV
Channel 7. Area schools competed to collect the most number of coats to
donate to COATS FOR KIDS. Last year, Pine Tree Junior High campus was the
winner, and this year Pine Tree Middle 7 Campus won with a total of 282 coats donated. The Middle School Campus will be home
to a traveling trophy donated by A#1 Trophies & Plaques until the next
COATS FOR KIDS Classroom Challenge coming in Fall, 2008.
