Homework Opportunities
* Your child needs to practice, practice, practice their handwriting on a daily basis!

Some fun ways are to use a dry erase board, markers, special pencils, etc. Anything that excites them about writing. It is essential that we work on letter formation and writing all capital and lowercase letters correctly.

* Have your child recite the alphabet to you with the sound that the letter makes.

* Let your child write their own stories-let them be an author and an illustrator! A simple spiral notebook, stickers, pencil, and crayons are all you need! Your child can put a sticker in their spiral and then write a story about it. They can also illustrate their story. All of your children are so creative-let's provide them with opportunities to do so!!!
Reading Success
Phonemeic awareness - the ability to hear sounds in words. Your child needs extra practice and assistance in strengthening this skill! Help your child listen for and repeat the sounds at the beginning of words: Ask your child-What do you hear at the beginning of the word "cat"? Your child should be able to tell you the sound it makes first, and then tell you the letter name. Another great skill to work on with your child is rhyming. Kindergarteners need to be able to recognize and prodice rhyming words. This can be done in a number of ways. Songs, poems and nursery rhymes are all great ways to work on this skill! We use songs all the time in the classroom and the kids are doing a great job of rhyming!!
