Some of the skills we are working on include the following...

Your child will meet with me in small groups at least once weekly. On this day, your child will bring home a literacy bag. Please listen to your child read the book (if applicable), sign the reading log, and return the bag the following day. Your help and support will aid tremendously in your child's reading success. *CAP(Concepts About Print) Skills: recognizing front of book, understanding print carries the meaning, knowing the difference between letters/words/spaces, understanding left to right progression, return sweep(knowing where to continue reading when getting to the end of the line)

*Recognizing/Reading the names of all the friends in our class

*Recognizing "chunks" in words

*Sight Words: I, a, the, is, in, am, at, here, and, to, like, see, my, on, up, look, this, go, we, me, come, it

*Recognizing all 26 letters (capital and lowercase)

Plants & Spring!
Our Writing to Read lab is an excellent program based on the basic sounds found in the English language. The children move through the cycles at their own pace. Please help your child learn to read and spell each word. Together, create new words by changing the first letter of each cycle word.

Cycle 1: cat, dog, fish
Cycle 2: pig, sun, bed
Cycle 3: rabbit, leg, three
Cycle 4: man, snake, vase
Cycle 5: jump, hand, wagon
Cycle 6: yard, moon, kite
Cycle 7: zipper, straw, smoke
