"The Next Step"

Intro to Coach Nixon

Hello. I am Shaine Nixon. This is my second year at Pine Tree. Last year I was at Middle 7. I have taught for ten years in the Longview area. I am certified in English 6-12 and Reading 4-8. I graduated from E.T.B.U. in Marshall. My wonderful wife, Christi, teaches 3rd grade Language Arts in Marshall. She graduated from E.T.B.U. in December 2007. She is also in charge of keeping me in line ( for the past 19 years.) She is a lifetime PIRATE. Fortunately, I am a LOBO. We have five children, Marlaina, who will be a junior and is graduating this year, Mikayla, who will be a FRESHMAN, McKenna (6th), Hunter (5th), and Maleigha (3rd). We call Lake O`the Pines home, and our children go to Harleton schools.

ENGLISH I -- YOU ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL NOW!

My goal for English I is to have each student at their highest level of achievement before they move on to English II. As teachers and parents it should be our goal to give our students the best education available. I want my students to leave the room at the end of the year knowing that they actually learned something and that they can also pull it from memory when neccessary. It's whithin their grasp and to their advantage to store as much knowledge as possible giving them a great advantage as they move forward in their high school education. TAKS testing is always a major concern from a teachers standpoint and it should also be a concern of parents and students. I expect my students to excell, but I hope they also seek a personal quest to do well to show themselves and others what they can do. I will do my best to have each one of them prepared for their future tests, but they must also pull their own weight and I expect them to do more than just show up for class. This class can be challenging and fun at the same time. Students must come ready to learn and be open to new ideas and information.

open THE BOOK!

You either love to read or you don't. My goal is to get everyone to read. In order for that to happen, they must learn to find topics that they enjoy. Sometimes you don't know you like something, because you don't know anything about the subject. In my class students will have to read. Students will have the opportunity to work toward individual goals and rewards. The more effort they put forward, the better their grades will be, but more importantly, the more actual knowledge each one of them will develop. The rewards from reading can be great, but the consequences for not reading can be devastating. Please don't wait until the night before an assignment is due to start reading.

Daily Adversity

There are many challenges that students must overcome and some are on a daily basis. If any student or parent needs to meet with me, my door is always open. Please call or make arrangements, and we can discuss each situation individually. I'm here because I love to teach. I will do everything possible to make sure each student gets individual attention. I do coach several sports, and my day starts early. My schedule is always full, but if we need to meet or you just have a question, let me know. If you leave a message, I will get back with you. Please be patient. If it's an emergency, just say so. I'll try to get right back with you. Students, your dog eating your homework, or my sisters best friends niece who lives in Houston has my book, is NOT an emergency.
