Your child needs to be reading EVERY night for at least 30 minutes! |
 | |
It is a must in 3rd grade to practice your reading every night. Make sure that when your child brings home their reading folder that they sit down and read their book by themselves EVERY single night! Read the book as many times as possible. This practice will reinforce what they are getting in the classroom and also help them become more fluent readers!

Working on Fluency |

We are really working on our fluency in the classroom! Help us by:
-Reading aloud with your child
-Reread familiar stories with your child
- Practice recognizing sight words
- Let your child read out loud to you everyday!

Comprehension Work |
 | |
Be sure to ask your child lots of questions about what they are reading to check for understanding. Things that we discuss in class when we read are:
Who are the characters?
What is the setting of this story (Where is the story taking place at??)
What is the plot? (what is the problem?)
What is the climax? (What happens to change the problem?)
What is the resolution? (How does the problem get fixed?)
How did the story end?
How could the story have ended differently?
Who was the main character?
What was the author's purpose for writing this story?
What kind of genre was this story?
How do you know?
